Cuelux and teaching Midicon 2 mapping

Hello everybody,

we used an AKAI APC20 for controlling the cuelux software and plan to switch to an ADJ Midicon 2 hoping there'll be more options to control light more individually. I will check out what is assigned to its buttons, faders and jog dials as soon as we have it.

The Software is Cuelux 1.4.54

I know there is a midi mapping assignment software for the new controller. I'm a bit nervous if we really could get it running the way we want to. We tried out with several controllers ending up disappointed.

Is there anyone around here giving some tips how to make things work in a kind of flexible way, please. I know from using other diverse software aplications which have a learn function by pressing some button "learn" in the software environment and responding by a hardware button to assign it.

Is there any way to do so with cuelux or at least some kind of midi channel overview which function would have which midi channel to ease our way ... or is it possible at all?

I'd very much appreciate to find some help around here.

Hi Andy,

The midi maps are in XML format. If you use a smart text editor (something like notepad++ on Windows) it is not too hard to create your own or modify an existing one. Have a look at this forum topic:
Generic midi map

The midimaps are located at <documents>/Visual Productions/Cuelux/Midimaps/. Inside the "Factory" folder you can find all midimaps that are included in Cuelux, if you create your own (or copy one of the existing) you should place it in the "User" folder. (Factory folder gets overwritten on an update of the software)

To figure out what midi command a button sends you can use CueluxPro (without a license is fine), this had a monitor page where you can see all incoming and outgoing midi messages. Make sure to select the midi device in the options first. I have attached the MIDI API document for Cuelux,

By the way, Cuelux 1.4.54 is fairly old, if possible I recommend upgrading to the latest version.
