Hello,

We notice that our Quadcore lost time and date everytime the power is down. (About 10 sec is enough for lost setting in the quadcore.)
It's not a battery inside, only a capacitor, so it would charge when power on.
It happen on all units we have, even if the unit is on for days before.
Firmware was up to date (1.46 is I remember right)

Do you have any ideas ?

Hello,

Thanks for reporting this and using our products :)

First, could you please confirm the exact firmware version shown in vManager or on the QuadCore home page? Firmware 1.46 sounds more like CueCore2 firmware, so I just want to make sure we are looking at the correct device/firmware, since the Quadcore last firmware is the 1.41.

Regarding the time/date: the QuadCore does not use a battery for the real-time clock, it uses a super-capacitor. After the unit has been powered for a while, it should normally keep the clock during short power interruptions. Losing the date/time after only 10 seconds is not expected.

Could you try setting the time with **vManager > Set Date & Time**, then leave the QuadCore powered for at least 1 hour, power it off for 1 minute, and check if the time/date is still correct after powering it back on?

If it still loses the clock, please send us the serial numbers, firmware versions, and let us know if the units are powered by PoE or PSU. Then we can check if the RTC backup circuit/super-capacitor needs inspection.

Thanks for the reply,
I checked again, and the version of our quadcore is 1.41.
We use most of the time with the external power supply.

I found the problem, when I open the case. Every quadcore we have have a pin broken from the super-capacitor. Look like we have to replace them and secure to the pcb.
We use our quadcore on rental works, so we have a rough life on transport / jobs.
After soldering a new one, everything works fine.

Thank you very much for the update, and for sharing what you found  :D

That makes perfect sense. The QuadCore does not use a standard RTC battery; the clock backup is done by the super-capacitor. So if one of its pins is broken, the unit will run normally while powered, but the date/time will be lost almost immediately when power is removed.

Good to hear that replacing and soldering the super-capacitor solved it for you. For rental use I agree it is a good idea to secure the part mechanically as well, so the solder joints do not take all the vibration stress during transport.
