I love the fact that Cuelux provides pre-made MIDI maps for control surfaces.
I think its a great feature, and personally I've been very happy with the map for the Behringer we use at the club.

I'm not sure how difficult this would be, but I would love to see Cuelux be able to have a midi learn function as well.
This means that you would be able to enter a mode where you select a fader/button/value in Cuelux and then touch the fader/button/knob on your MIDI control surface to link the two.

The reason I suggest this is:
1. Cuelux will work with ANY midi control surface right out of the box.
2. MIDI maps can be changed in a realtime performance scenario.
3. MIDI maps can be personalized to suit the end user.
4. No .xml editing or value inputs.
5. Easier integration with control surfaces being used with other programs. (i.e. http://www.akaipro.com/apc40)
6. Very useful for customizable control surface such as http://www.jazzmutant.com/ and http://monome.org/.
7. Easier than having to write a new midi map for every control surface out there.

Good examples of this implemented in current software are http://www.modul8.ch/ and http://www.ableton.com/

Is this feasible to implement?

How about an answer on this?.

DMXIS does this great .. i'm really disappointed with the Cuelux midi implementation ..

If midi could be mapped to any keys on the surface (and banks not visible) .. this software would be a perfect midi control solution.

Thanks for the posts.

MIDI-learn for Cuelux would be a nice feature. However, making this as easy as the rest of Cuelux isn't simple, we need to find a way to do this in the software keeping Cuelux easy and plug&play.

Tight integration with the MIDI-controllers in Cuelux as we did on the Behringer BCF-2000 is an example of something (almost) not possible by a simple MIDI-learn function in the software.

DMXIS has a good MIDI-learn feature, but you can't compare it to Cuelux - it's a completely different controller.

We'll have a think and keep you all updated!

The MIDI-implementation of Cuelux is actually quite advanced. However, at the moment the only easy way to get a mapping-file for your controller is by sending us an e-mail with the MIDI-charts of your prefered controller and we'll work on the file to get the best possible integration.

Hi,

For the moment, we've decided to keep the concept of having MIDI-maps for common MIDI-controllers, to make sure most of the (first-time) users can have the common MIDI-controllers working with our software without any programming.

If there's a need for a mapping-file for an unsupported MIDI-controller, please let me know!

Regards,

Jeroen

Hmmmm,

Basically I'm trying to use a Jazzmutant Lemur to control Cuelux (and simultaneously Modul8 and Live).
So for me, if there were just a Generic MIDI template with an .nfo that said which control was premapped to which channel/note, that would be ideal. It's actually pretty similar to what bourby (http://www.visualproductions.nl/forum/index.php?topic=827.0) is trying, and in some ways identical as Lemur has a sequencer I would love to implement.
Any chance I could get a copy of the MIDI xml you made for him? Ill give that a shot first.
Thx
